RE- IMPEACHMENT OF PLASU SUG PRESIDENT AND TREASURER- A TALE OF "LEGISLATIVE" RASCALITY AND KANGAROO LEGISLATION.

Image
The news of the impeachment of the SUG President of Plateau State University, Bokkos and his treasurer by the erstwhile (former) legislative arm of the Student Union Government of the university came to us, to say the least, as both laughable and ridiculous. It is in response to the tensions created by this rather unfortunate and illegal action that we want to be swift in responding to this issues:  1. Impeachment of executive members who have committed impeachable offenses is indeed the duty and responsibility of the LEGISLATIVE arm of the SUG. The excesses of the legislative arm are however checked by the management of the university. Sometime in March, the legislative arm of the SUG was suspended by the management of Plateau State University, Bokkos, because of their consistent contravention of the laws of the SUG and corrupt practices which the school got a wind of. As we speak, there is no legislative arm of the SUG in PLASU. Who impeached the SUG President and Treasur

Farooq Kperogi : How to make this the last ASUU strike - Gabitainment Post News

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said on Friday that it had “resolved to suspend the strike action embarked upon on 14th February 2022.” Suspension suggests the temporary interruption of an activity. But it’s time to stop this annual ritual of nationwide strikes in public universities permanently. There is nowhere in the world where, like clockwork, the entire public university system of a country shuts down for nearly a year every year, or every other year, because university teachers are on strike. Not even in banana republics does this happen. ASUU has been going on strikes for as long as we all remember— to get successive governments to honor “agreements” that they signed. Governments either never honor the agreements or do so only partly just to cause the temporary cessation of strikes in the aftermath of public pressures. A famous wisecrack often attributed to Albert Einstein says, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different

This is as the office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AOGF) revealed its readiness to accommodate issues of concern to ASUU over the payment platforms, Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) that constituted a major part of the issues that led to the strike. ASUU Strike: Why FG reversed decision to reopen universities - Gabitainment Post News

Image
Fresh Facts have emerged on why the Federal Government quickly reversed its order to the various university management to reopen public universities amid the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Recall that the Federal Government had earlier ordered Vice-Chancellors to re-open schools. It had asked the Vice-Chancellors of universities “to ensure that the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) resume and commence lectures immediately.” However, it later issued another directive withdrawing its earlier circular. DAILY POST gathered that the opinion leaders and other stakeholders interested in resolving the face-off between the ASUU and the government mounted pressure on government requesting that the circular, earlier sent to mandate the reopening of the universities, be withdrawn. A senior official in the Ministry of Education, who didn’t want his name mentioned, disclosed that “the circular was withdrawn t

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DIRECTS VCs TO RE-OPEN VARSITIES - Gabitainment Post News

Image
The Federal Government on Monday ordered the vice-chancellors of universities to re-open schools and allow students resume lectures, immediately. Recall that Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike for about seven months now as the union is demanding from FG the funding of the Revitalisation of Public Universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears. Others are the renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and the inconsistency in Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System. However, with the deadlock in negotiation between the FG and ASUU team, the federal government went to court to challenge the action of the association. Last week the national industrial court through Polycarp Hamman, the judge in the NIC, granted the federal government’s application for an interlocutory injunction to restrain ASUU from continuing with the strike. ASUU had since filed 14 ground

ASUU STRIKES ARE TO SAVE PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

1. The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) held an emergency meeting at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja, Abuja on Sunday, 28th August, 2022. The meeting was called mainly to review developments since its last resolution that rolled over the nationwide strike action for another four weeks starting from 1st August, 2022. 2. NEC observed with regret that the Union had experienced a lot of deceit of the highest level in the last five and half years as the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) engaged ASUU in fruitless and unending negotiation without a display of utmost fidelity. In 2017, the Federal Government constituted a committee to renegotiate the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement under the chairmanship of Dr. Wale Babalakin. After three years of fruitless negotiation, Dr. Babalakin was replaced in December 2020 with Professor Emeritus Munzali Jibril. The Renegotiation Committee produced and submitte

In a very exciting and patriotic twist, the Plateau Diaspora communities in the US, UK, Canada, German and South Africa put forward a bold offer to crowd fund the development of the Jos Main Market. The diaspora community put the offer, as a counter-offer to JAIZ bank’s offer to rebuild the market for N10 billion. Making their case at a parley organised by the project management office of the Plateau State Government, hosted by the Chief of Staff, Mr Noel Dongjur, former commissioner Mr. Jaafaru David Wuyep and the DG of the Plateau Infrastructure Promotion & Regulatory Agency (PPP Office) Mr Felix Rwang-Dung. The Plateau Diaspora community confirmed that they are ready to pool funds together (into what they tagged a “Diaspora Fund”, contributing N1 million per head in order to crowd fund the initiative). They argued that they’d rather do this, than have the equity of such a priced asset handed over to external investors –they said that the main market offers a unique o
