RE- IMPEACHMENT OF PLASU SUG PRESIDENT AND TREASURER- A TALE OF "LEGISLATIVE" RASCALITY AND KANGAROO LEGISLATION.

The news of the impeachment of the SUG President of Plateau State University, Bokkos and his treasurer by the erstwhile (former) legislative arm of the Student Union Government of the university came to us, to say the least, as both laughable and ridiculous. It is in response to the tensions created by this rather unfortunate and illegal action that we want to be swift in responding to this issues: 

1. Impeachment of executive members who have committed impeachable offenses is indeed the duty and responsibility of the LEGISLATIVE arm of the SUG. The excesses of the legislative arm are however checked by the management of the university. Sometime in March, the legislative arm of the SUG was suspended by the management of Plateau State University, Bokkos, because of their consistent contravention of the laws of the SUG and corrupt practices which the school got a wind of. As we speak, there is no legislative arm of the SUG in PLASU. Who impeached the SUG President and Treasurer? We can't have an informal group and disgruntled elements pretending to be recognized bodies with powers to impeach anyone. We must desist from these kinds of expensive jokes so as not to put our dear school in an unnecessary state of unrest.

2. Why did the so called legislative arm "impeach" the SUG President? Sometimes in the early parts of this year 2022, the "so called" legislative arm visited some top government functionaries in Abuja parading themselves as the Legislative arm of the SUG and off course in the name of the school. Their visit led to the donation of a humongous sum of over a million naira by a politician to them. Rumors of their visit pilfered into the institution and in reaction, the group tried to divert attention by hastily staging an "illegal impeachment" on a legally elected President without following any constitutional provisions. The impeachment is illegal but worse still the group that conducted the impeachment is also an illegal group.

We in the spirit of oneness (PLASU family) wish to call on the PLASU community and the supporters of our hardworking President who has been working tirelessly to carry out his duties to the student community and also the supporters of our Treasurer to please kindly disregard all claims of impeachment as paraded by the "kangaroo group" who are just bent on stirring emotions and causing disunity within the school. 

We also plead with the school management to fish out this disgruntled elements and caution them against any further attempts by them to cause disharmony within the institution to avoid chaos in the school community.

Conclusively, Plateau State University is a law abiding community and any attempt to belittle our school laws and the SUG constitution will be vehemently rejected!
